Employee Wellness Programs Boost Productivity

Employee WellnessThe incorporation of a wellness program into a business offers many benefits. Productivity will increase and the lives of employees will improve. The cost of these programs is often offset by improvements in employee health. This leads to a reduction in employee sick days and health insurance claims. Before you start to promote employee wellness programs, you need to decide which type of program best meets the needs of your business.

 Walking Challenge

An employee wellness contest can be held once a week to see which employee walks the most at home and at work. This is a great way for employees to burn calories and lose weight. You can even provide employees with a pedometer to keep track of steps and calories that have been burned. Another option is to offer a water bottle to all employees.

 Weight Loss Challenge

Conduct a contest once a month and award the top five to ten employees that have lost the most weight. Set up teams or hold an individual contest. Determine if you will use straight weight loss or a reduction in the body mass index. Provide an incentive to employees to enter this contest, such as an extra vacation day or a personal day.

 Vending Machines

Replace junk food in vending machines with healthier options. If an outside vendor is used to stock the vending machines, then have them supply healthier foods in the machines. Another option is to provide nutritional information for items that are offered in the machines.

 Health Newsletter

Offer a weekly or monthly newsletter with health tips for your employees. It’s a great way to show every worker in your company how much you care about their personal health. Also, healthy employees are able to stay focused longer and will take less sick days, which in the end improves your bottom line as much as it does their overall health.
