Small business owners usually don’t have a lot of money to spend on employee incentives, but you can still reward your employees without breaking the bank.  Here are some simple budget friendly ideas to keep your employees happy!Piggy Bank

Try Rewarding Your Employees By Improving The Everyday Work Environment:

  • Provide telecommuting options – If possible make arrangements in which employees can enjoy flexibility in working location and hours.
  • Try a flexible schedule plan if possible. Some companies are allowing a 4 day work week during the summer months, or any time during slower business months. Also consider allowing employees to adjust their work hours, maybe they come in early and leave earlier or come in later and leave later.
  • Plan some morale-boosting and team-building activities that take place outside of the office.

Reward Employees With Small Tokens of Appreciation:

  • Give your employees half days on holidays, like New Years Eve or President’s Day, not the typical holidays employees would expect to have off on or even have a half day on.
  • Purchase small gift cards to a coffee stop, Dunkin Donuts, Starbucks or even 7-11.
  • Thank you cards are a great way to express appreciation; and it is also something an employee can always keep and look back on as a reminder they are valued.
  • Recognize employees’ accomplishments publicly.  During an employee meeting make an announcement of acknowledgement or send out a company-wide newsletter to highlight good work.
  • Have a day where you host a party for staffers.  Take a few hours out of the work day to allows employees to step away from their desk and socialize with their co-workers. Bring in food and have raffle for small fun prizes.

As a small business owner it is important to show your employees you appreciate them and they are valued. Do not believe that just because you don’t have the money to lavish them with pricy perks, they will not be grateful. A little gratitude will go a long way and will help retain your most valuable asset, your employees.
